In this virtual course, award-winning artist Patricia Savage guides students in the drybrush watercolor method utilized by scientific illustrators. On Days 1 and 2, students will study the anatomy of the bird’s skull, feet, wings and feather groups using photographic specimens on loan from the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and handouts provided by the instructor. On Days 3 and 4, students will receive instruction on how to create value gradations, color temperature, chroma and matching color while painting their own bird. Students may not leave the course with a completed painting of a bird, but they will have a start to continue working on in their own time using what they've learned. Some previous watercolor experience is recommended, but not required. This course is geared toward advanced beginners and intermediate students, but all are welcome.
Fees: Member $110, Non-Member $132
