Learn how to grow your own native plants from a professional propagator! Join Kaity Bevenour, horticulturalist and owner of Parallel Nursery, a Richmond VA native perennial nursery, for a journey through the fascinating world of plant propagation. During this class students will receive an introduction to the history of the horticulture trade and plant creation for landscape uses. We will review different methods of growing “propagules” such as seeds, cuttings, or root divisions, and cover other techniques to help induce successful plant propagation. Students will also receive guidance on how to responsibly find (aka source) your propagation material, what soil mediums or specific tools increase success (or not), and review some of the impacts of external factors, such as seasonal differences and temperature changes, on plant growth rates and successful propagation.
